Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) challenges his Senate colleagues to support his amendment to swear of earmarks for one year so they can better address the fiscal crisis facing the nation. Unfortunately, the Senate voted to keep their earmarks by a vote of 68-29 (Mar. 16, 2010).

  • Nice try Jim! You are one of my political heroes and a role model. I loved the train analogy followed by examples.

  • why does Obama keep saying there are no ear marks?

he thinks if he says it over and over

  • Earmarks tell us where the money is going to be spent and how much for what. Earmarks alone are not problematic for the taxpayer.

This guy is grandstanding, associating "kickbacks" and other negatively connotative terminology with "earmarking"

  • DeMint is such a moron.

  • you must be talking about nj

  • Jim DeMint should run for President.

  • Frowning faces and ugly places.

  • finally someone i trust in washington. jim is a good man. i would like to see him move up the ladder.

  • It smells like hypocrisy that Sen Bunning would vote NO to oppose this earmark ban, but held up unemployment benefits for a week since it contributed to deficit spending. It's a good thing that Sen Bunning is retiring. Unfortunately, some other senators ought to retire who are not.

  • Keep up the good work Jim. You are one of the biggest and truest Conservatives in the GOP..

Keep working for us. The tyrants in Congress are being exposed for all they are.

They need to be put away in jail for life for treason!

  • @slickwilly87 If you pay taxes you are mad too. unfortuneately moochers see nothing wrong with theft.

  • He's right. They should be focused on good judgment.

Earmarks twist it & allow legislators' to be swayed away from sound decisions. If we allow petty self interest in SMALL issues, we keep drifting to tyranny in the LARGE ones.

This is not a small matter. Several recent major (and stupid) pieces of legislation have passed ONLY w/ manipulation of legislators' via earmarks serving their short term political interests.
