A simple DIY way to clean much of the gunk off of an old vinyl LP. Let the glue dry for ~6-8 hours then simply peel it off!

Thanks to the folks at audiokarma for the inspiration.

  • People I know that collect vinyl (the hardcore collectors) I tell about the infamous Wood Glue Trick in regards to cleaning records, they usually laugh, I tell 'em to search YouTube. Although a friend of mine has a record that skips, he's gonna try the wood glue trick to see if it fixes the skip.

  • @VDRP

To be clear, no one is forced to try try this methods. I consider myself a "serious" collector and know plenty of others who are more "serious" that have tried this method. It works, it does NOT destroy your vinyl and it's easy. Any "serious" collector mostly likely has an RCM or a homebrew vacuum method (I do both wood glue and vacuum) but sometimes a vacuuming just can't get all the crud. I think your friend will be pleasantly surprised.

  • Wood glue is not designed for restoring Vinyl Records. It should NEVER be used on rare records, or records with musical or cultural significance, as the wood glue is capapble of causing irreparable damage in a number ways.

  • @mitch19636

Wood glue isn't used to restore records, it's used to pull the crud out of the grooves that sink/rinse washing won't. Do a final wash/rinse after the glue peel and your records will be perfectly safe.

Out of curiosity, point to some sources that show "irreparable damage in a number of ways". What EXACTLY will the wood glue do that's so bad and please cite sources. Thanks!

  • @mitch19636 You stupid fuck, you went on a number of wood glue vinyl cleaning videos and posted the same damn comment. Give evidence of a record being "irreparably damaged" by wood glue or shut the fuck up.

Trolls are trolls. "mitch19636" is one.

  • Wood glue is not "designed" for restoring _vinyl_ records, yet does a very good job of removing surface grunge and crud embedded inside the groove. I have used it as the first step in cleaning a number of very old vinyl LPs, followed by a cleaning with mold release compound (that dissolves lubricants and oil-based substances that resist glue) and vacuuming. I have yet to see a properly "glued" vinyl record damaged irreparably.

Do NOT use wood glue to clean acetates or shellac 78s.

  • where's the removal? i love watching it being removed. also, nice background music.

  • Try crazy glue haha

  • i try this it works realy well without damage the record, but now i want to try the LGL antistatic vinyl glue, i think this product was better than tidebond , because no residue to clean after the dry process.

  • @mitch19636 -- cite your source please or shut the hell up, you're rattling off a bunch of OPINIONS, not facts :)

  • This does actually work. It's not a joke as it may appear. There are professional grade items available that work exactly the same way as this. This is far cheaper and works just as well.
