Live Painting by Derfla (Barn Scene from start to finish) HD

http://www.derfla.tv to see more paintings. Artist, Derfla, paints a barn scene live from start to finish. The finished painting has thick texture which he applies using a palette knife.

"For these mixed media paintings I begin with a primed artist grade wood panel made of Tung wood. I then make some initial marks using oil pastels. Next I use a brush to apply a premium grade tempera paint. For the last step I use a palate knife to fling thick acrylic paint at the painting in a technique I've dubbed 'ninja splat'. Paint goes everywhere but eventually most of it finds its way onto the surface of the painting. This process can be fun to watch and so I've begun to paint live in front of people so they can share in the fun."

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I do like to use a picture of a concrete object as a template. I also enjoy doing purely abstract paintings but I find that having a concrete object gives the viewer something to latch onto. Then from there they can be drawn into my little world and experience some of the strange stuff that's in my head :)
