  • By the way - if you like his songwriting, two CDs of Cymbal songs - called "Some Songs I Left Behind" came out on Darn Good Records. He writes great songs - check iTunes and CD Baby if you like his songs.

  • You realize that creating music, rather than just sampling hooks and riffs, would require learning something about music and developing musicianship - so don't cross your fingers.

  • my name is mike and i live in vancouver. I had the pleasure of working with jonnys nephew from 1998 to 2001. Sure would like to get together with he and his lovely wife again as i have a genius marketing idea. I put Surfside to bed in 2006. Get in touch, Dan. By the way i cut my own album "almost eden" in 2003 under the name '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''eden slater and it managed to sell 404 copies as an indy.lonehorseman09@gmail.com

  • In 1969 I was 14 years old. As a Hispanic girl I had a terrible complex about my ethnicity and my tan skin. When this song hit the charts, my friends started singing it to me. It gave me a big self-esteem boost - I proudly made it through high school with my head up high. I love Derek - Thank you Johnny Cymbal, us brown skinned girls needed that. REALLY, REALLY NEEDED THAT SONG!

  • I was 10 years old when I first heard this song. I had the old Bang 45 for years until I finally got in on a CD (Dick Bartley's Rock 'n' Roll Oldies Vol 2), in mono. I was wondering...was this song ever available in stereo? I'd love to have it in stereo.

  • I miss you Uncle Johnny..

  • Beautiful!!!

  • a talent lost rip johnny

  • AWESOME TALENT!

    MUCH MISSED!

  • It is interesting to see the face of the singer after all these years. It's also evidence why some things, like rock and roll music, are best done by the young. I'm a Boomer who is getting tired of gray-haired revival acts instead of energetic, creative young musicians coming up with new material that knocks people's socks off. Thanks for the video, but I hope some young rockers are out there creating something besides rap music based on sampled hooks.
