I see a different interpretation, though very close to Griffith.
imagine to fast forward a video taken on a street in a city. You watch how the old ways (represented by the old buildings) crumble and a new order is built from/upon them (new buildings at the end). And though the world changes, the people don't. They behave the same way as before.
And the rose. Maybe we just miss the beauty in life, what is always before us, but we simply don't (know where to) look for it.

you said that griffin was taking it too literal with his interpretation. you said that most people with functioning senses would notice houses falling next to them. that would be taking it too literally.

i kinda agree with griffins interpretation because in the video, all the people there are business type people talking in their cell phones and holding suitcases rushing about and what not. and when buildings fall next to them, they dont notice.

Saying that most people with functioning senses would notice a house falling down next to them isn't an interpretation of the video. Griffin said they're so busy they don't notice buildings falling down; my retort was highlighting that what they were saying was essentially a desciption of the video and what is seen. That isn't necessarily the "meaning" behind the video, if there is one at all. I agree people tend to be stuck in their own world, but events of that magnitude don't go unnoticed.

what i meant was that you took griffin's interpretation too literal when you said that people would notice something as big as a building falling down. thats just the point. metaphors tend to be exagerations in order to get the point across. its like saying im so hungry i could eat a horse or he's boring me to death.

Do explain what that's supposed to mean. I've stated it means nothing to me. I'm interested to know how a non-existent interpretation can be too literal.

and the rose could symbolize the saying, "stop and smell the roses".
