Hong Kong singers of that era (60s & 70s) all were able to speak and sing perfect Mandarin. Those days Mandarin songs rule the music scene. Its only in the late 70s onwards that Cantonese songs became popular.

She is Liu Yun's elder sister, all from Beijing origin.

Hua Wa's voice suits this song perfectly. This is the most beautiful version I've heard. Incredible that after half a century, her voice seems to improve with age too!
