@Restless1Soul If you do great works and then die with a mortal sin on your soul, you will still be damned. The reason we do works, is to make up for purgatory time. If you die in a state of grace, you will go to purgatory or heaven, depending on the works you have done to please God, and the things you have done which didn't please God. Repenting isn't the only thing either, you must confess to a priest.

@LxE100 Yes ,yes and yes.I agree .This doesn't mean faith alone justifys a man. You need to do great works to make up for your sins, and repent. Mortal sins will damn a man.Now look at Ephesians2:8-9.Anything of great works there?I agree on the repenting.But that will not save.Your works,my works will not save,But- see the but part,Bet you hated seeing that didnt you?,How do we PROVE our love for God? Our works.Do we live a Christian life.

@Restless1Soul Peter denied him out of fear, which still isn't good, but he cried to God for a whole night asking for forgivness. Moses killed the Egyptian out of pure anger, after he saw him striking his brethren. It wasn't the best thing to do, but it was out of anger. He was only saved because he repented, and confessed his sins. This doesn't mean faith alone justifys a man. You need to do great works to make up for your sins, and repent. Mortal sins will damn a man.

@ydnar0591 If that were true, we wouldn't have over 30,000 "Christian" denominations. Without a Church, people are free to interpret by themselves, and as shown, this leads to complete chaos. Your rejection of purgatory proves, that you can't interpret Scripture alone.

@LxE100 Jesus tells us regarding interpretation of scripture:
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; {but interpret the word} but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall "shew it unto you". Jesus words will always lineup with GOD"S Word.
The Holt Spirit's words will always line up with the word of God.

@LxE100 The basic difference is, "Born Again Christians" believe that God's Word the Bible is the "Final Authority" in all matters of faith concerning the Church, as opposed to the Roman Catholic church who believes that the church it'self {& the Pope} is the "Final Authroity" in all matters of faith concerning the church. This explanation is basically what you will find if you look up the word Evangelical in any encyclopedia.
{In my particular case the KJV is the only English version I trust.}

@LxE100 I will be 62 years old next month, and I have been doing this for a long time, and it gets to you after a while trying to explain the difference between Christianity & Catholicism.Things as they were understood by the Apostles in the 1st century AD NT Church and the changes that came later, seemingly out of nowhere. The reformation that followed or the "re-forming" of the original Born-Again Church and it's ideals going back to Christ himself. {John 3:3}
Men can't be trusted ,God can.
