  • I am new to MMA. Can someone please explain to me how the guard (on the ground) works? Closed guard, open guard, rubber guard? Advantages/disadvantages? Which one is best for submission attempts?

  • closed guard is keep someone from passing into side control, mount, or north south position

Opening your guard gives u better chances for submissions but also allows opportunities for someone to pass your guard into dominate positions

rubber guard can be very effective for both keeping someone from passing and setting up submissions but you have to be very flexible to work the rubber guard effectively Aoki may be the best at it in MMA

  • the point i was trying to make was those were heath biggest weapon's but now he cant use them if u can knee a knee in the stand up why not on the ground?

  • Aderson Silva will win in the first round by rape.

  • shogun hit his prime young. he's got nothing to offer anymore. showed no heart in the coleman fight. who COULDN'T KO Colman in that fight. lol his hands were @ his waiste, for christ sake. Liddell has better cardio and signifigantly harder punches. He will TKO Shogun in the 2nd rnd.

  • What's the advantage of using a rubber guard then? I thought the full guard was the most powerful ground position you could have in MMA. I guess you are an advocate for knees to the head of a downed opponent to be brought back to the UFC/USAMMA, so am I.

  • Rubber guard is where you grab, say, your right foot with your left hand so that your calf lays across the back of your opponent's neck. Takes a lot of flexibility and can really be uncomfortable if you're stuck in there.

  • Vicioussid explained it nicely. Incidentally, the full guard has no place in a no holds barred fight. In Krav Maga, I would simply smash your groin, knee your groin, etc -- and put you in a world of hurt. However, the full guard in jiu jitsu allows you to control your opponents hips. Half guard allows for less control and the full mount means you really can't control your opponents hips and makes it virtually impossible to implement submissions.

  • yea great call.

  • Good call on Shogun!! Been watching your vids for some time and I like how you analyze the fighters. Most people just try to justify why their favorite fighter is going to win or they buy into what everyone else says. Keep it up!!

  • you are the biggest goon in the world man.get a life. i was searching something and your video came up. i guess that plaid comforter summs up you the best....

  • Anderson Silva will beat any welterweight stright the fuck up

  • see both main events in full at the following website: w w w . f i g h t - s t u d i o . c o m

    (obviously don't leave gaps)

  • Thanks. So on the close guard you wrap your legs around your opponent to prevent him from passing, on the open guard you open your legs so that he'll move to side control (etc.) in a chance to catch him with a submission. How does the rubber guard look like? How are the legs placed in a rubber guard?
