This tool is useful for repairing circuits

You had to mention silver film IF can capacitors (tears, cry, sniff). Ha ha.
Who would've thought silver could migrate, grow, move? We know now. Of my 10 radios with those kinds of IF capacitors, only one I know of has the problem.
Getting back to integrated package's or network's, this idea did lead some where, to IC's. They just did it with transistors. IC's are a modern miricle. However when you combine MANY things into one, one thing can/might take out ALL.

Yep, and with out the tar and with no chance of repairing them. It is an updated version Philco Bakelite block.

Thanks John,
Great, a new toy! You need to do more video, it's good for you.

I like the Photoshop idea...

Thanks AloneAndOld
A flash can pick up lots of detail and PhotoShop lets you amplify it. It works pretty good.

Another neat trick I learned doing genealogy research on old faded documents is to scan them/take pix, then switch the photo program to NEGATIVE. Works slick. You end up with white letters on black background (ala a chalkboard).

It is remarkable how useful digital photography is. Thanks.

The early IC "Integrated circuits", With out the modern IC our life wouldn't be the same.
However with old tube radios I like separate discrete components, not IC's. The point to point wiring lends or subjects these multi lead deals to lead breakage. One or more leads break off, seemingly always right up against the "integrated package", making it hard/impossible to fix. Use discrete components to replace them (because you have to). Fortunately I've dealt with just dual capacitor packages.

Yep, this is the beginning of a good idea but not necessary a good idea in these radios. It has always amazed me how much experimenting was done in radio technology and it continues today. Some ideas worked great and others did not, like the silver mica capacitors in IF cans. There great if you like listening to thunder storms in AM and FM radios when there are no storms. Otherwise NOT.
