I agree that we never give up! My grandson is so much like your son. He can articulate well when he does speak. He uses single words (labels) for food, and favorite things. Though sometimes it is very hard pulling words out of him. Lately his teachers say he isn't focused at school.

@ckcarlson1 I wish we had a portable SPECT scan to see how the brain fluctuates throughout the week.....I think in some cases of autism, there are some rapid fluctuations of blood flow, etc....it's like a cerebral roller coaster ride for the person...always stuck between this plane, trying to get to the higher functioning one...keeping brain healthy is critical..so it can better make those connections..

have you tried PECS, look it up on here, its an amazing communication tool. Autism is a visual world. He looks very happy here! you are doing a great job

Yes, tried pecs, but he doesn't seem interested, not to say he won't be interested next month or next year...with severe autism, it's important not to give up, I've read stories where a 30 yr. old autistic man began saying his first words, and nobody could figure out why, it just happened....miracles are always possible at any age.
