@whiteribbonman1 Great question. If an employer specifically instructs you not to contact them, you shouldn't contact them. I've experienced this frustration myself and it goes against everything I'm told about following up. But if the print says, "please do not call the employer" and I call, it looks like I don't follow instructions and makes me look bad. But if it doesn't say, call away!

@whiteribbonman1 I'm sorry to hear about that. We created an article answering this question, but due to YouTube restrictions I cannot directly link you to it (I only get so many characters and can't post links to our blog in comments).
In a nutshell, some employers post jobs, even when they don’t need someone, then save the resumes until they are ready to hire. I know it's frustrating but you should still apply.
If you ask your questions on our Facebook page, we'd be happy to help you!

10 or more over the course of a year? Josh, I noticed my comment was not approved, because it isn't here. I WENT to the location and they said the job you advertised for them does not exist. Now I don't know whether to keep spending time with your "postings" or delete them? Respond to this and prove them wrong. If I don't see an answer for this too, I will know they were right about you. Be "proactive". Yes, I am dissappointed, but try changing that.

I have applied for 6 positions via snagajob just since the beginning of Dec 2011, and I have seen in print "please do not call the employer. If you are chosen to advance in the hiring process, you will be contacted". Who is right? Josh or the print? Anyone? I say 6 positions because I am also signed up with "Temp to hire" agencies that are doing me zero good.
So on the application where it says to enter work experience, I chose the option "I do not have work experience yet," but it still says my profile isn't 100% complete. I don't know what else it could be besides that because I filled everything out...

@daneel512 Do you have any volunteer experience you could add to your profile? Volunteer experience can count as work experience. This won't affect your ability to apply for jobs on our site. I hope this helps! Good luck!

@xBoneXBBoy I'm sorry to hear that! Make sure your applications are free of errors. Errors on applications are red flags for employers. Proof read your applications before you submit them. Also, don't forget to follow up after you apply. A week's time usually gives the employer enough time to look over your application. I hope that helps! If you have any other questions, you can check us out on Facebook (SnagAJob) and we'll be happy to help you! Good luck!

i loathe following up
itsshanice 1 month ago
@itsshanice I totally understand that. Calling employers can be so awkward. If it helps, try creating a mini script to follow to get yourself started. Something like, "Hi, my name is _____. I put in an application for (position title) last week and am calling to check on the status of my application." I usually practice this three or four times before I make the actual call.
