These are small geothermal steam vents adjacent to the east shore of the Salton Sea, near Niland, CA, which cause water beneath the surface of the ground to be pushed up and mixed with silt and other sediment near the surface, and erupt as sputtering built-up "volcanoes", or bubbling, boiling recessed pools of mud, respectively. Very strange place! Very trippy! Interesting sounds!
