Warm Welcom 1st Hole: Woods dressed in black pants, a gray, green and white-striped shirt and a black hat, was welcomed warmly at the first tee, where fans jammed 20-deep to watch arguably the most important drive of his life. Several patrons shed tears, and many shouted encouragement, happy to welcome him back to the game.
Tiger crushed his tee shot down the right-center of the fairway of the par 4 first hole, the crowd roaring its approval. Woods hit a nice short iron approach 12 feet left of the hole and just missed his birdie attempt

Fantastic Eagle 8th Hole: Tiger hit a big drive at the uphill, par-5 eighth. Unable to see the green, Woods lashed a fairway wood that perfectly caught the right slope near the green, and the ball trickled six feet short of the hole. He poured in the right-to-left eagle putt and moved to 2-under for the round.

Fabulous 2nd shot for Birdie 9th Hole: With light rain beginning to fall, Woods pulled his tee shot into the left trees and finished in the rough at the downhill, par-4 ninth. Obstructed by trees and playing into a strong breeze, he hooked his second shot from 207 yards onto the middle of the green, doing a fast side-step into the fairway to see where the ball wound up. The brilliant shot rolled to the back of the green, then fed back down the slope, 10 feet from the hole. Woods drained the birdie putt to make the turn in 3-under 33.

Great approach 12th Hole: Woods nearly aced the 155-yard, par-3 12th hole, his 9-iron landing a foot from the cup and spinning back six feet. Woods tipped his cap to the appreciative crowd but was unable to capitalize, lipping out his birdie attempt.

Birdie put at 13th Hole: Woods hit a beautiful drive at the par-5 13th, drawing his ball down the right-center of the fairway. Playing aggressively to the back-right pin, he hooked his mid-iron approach shot 10 feet below the hole. His left-to-right putt looked true but caught the left edge of the cup and spun right. A disbelieving Woods settled for a birdie.

Superb second Eagle 15th Hole 1st Round: Woods ripped a big drive at the par-5 15th and had a short iron left to the green. His approach shot covered the flag and finished 10 feet behind the hole. Woods just touched the slick, left-to-right putt, and the ball found the center of the cup for eagle, the first time he carded two in the same round at Augusta National.

Nearly 5 1/2 hours after teeing off, Woods looked strong and calm as he approached the 18th green and received a warm welcome. With light rain falling again, Woods drove safely at the uphill, par-4 18th, catching the right side of the fairway. Woods spun back a pitching wedge five feet left of the hole. He tried to power in the birdie putt but lipped out, closing with a disappointing par.

Still, it was a strong start for top-ranked Tiger Woods. Woods hit nine of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens in regulation. He also played the par-5s in a combined 5-under, playing his first competitive round in 144 days, the 34-year-old Woods fired a 4-under-par 68, bettering his best previous start in 15 appearances by two strokes.
