Around the time of WWII there was a group of scientists who collectively called themselves Group 935. Group 935 was dedicate to creating inventions to benefit the human race, however, they quickly ran out of resources so had nothing to progress with. To combat this, their leader, Ludwig Maxis struck a deal between Group 935 and the Nazi Party in secret to provide them with weapons to win the war. Within Group 935 there were members from all around the globe, including America and Germany, thus, Maxis kept this deal a secret between him and Richtofen.[1] Group 935 became curious about Element 115 and used it in experiments and found effects it had on non-living and living corpses, as well as its ability to be used to power matter transferors, or teleporters.
Maxis used Element 115 to build teleporters, which he and Richtofen experimented on, but found it to send the subjects away from the sender-pad, but they would not return to the mainframe. Maxis also used 115 to create the ultimate army for the Nazi's, an undead army, Zombies. Maxis was trying to have the zombies controlled so they could be used in combat against the Allied Forces, but he found that they could not be controlled,[2] nevertheless he continued to try. As well as this, Maxis used Element 115 to create the Ray Gun from plans sent to him from Shi-No-Numa. Richtofen used 115 to create the Wunderwaffe DG-2, Wunderwaffe DG3-JZ, Monkey Bombs and early prototypes for the Gersch Device.[3] H. Porter used the element to upgrade the Ray Gun to remove most of the splash damage it creates. Harvey Yena used it to create the Hyena Infra-Dead, an upgraded version of the Scavenger. It is unknown who created the QED, Thundergun, VR-11, Winters Howl, Wave Gun or the 31-79 JGb215.
After countless experiments with the teleporters, finally, Richtofen and Schuster had success, teleporting a Walnut 3 feet to a platform.[4] Richtofen informed Maxis of his success, but Maxis, blinded by his determination of trying to create an undead army, dismissed the success and telling him to concentrate on other things,[5] this angered Richtofen and he decided to continue the experiments anyway. When he hit a wall in his experiments, he needed to use a living test subject to progress and see if it worked for living people as well as objects. Upon activation he was teleported to the Moon in front of the Pyramid device, called the M.P.D., which was allegedly built by aliens. He was then teleported to Shangri-La, where he acted as a god to the local populace due to his knowledge of things that the primitive people had no idea of, he had his name enscribed on an alter due to this (that is why it's on the Focussing Stone Alter..). After this he was then back to the teleporter.[6]
Deciding not to tell Maxis of his find, he and Shuster returned to the Moon and built the base there, called Griffin Station. Upon investigation he found a number of devices which harnessed an energy source called 'Vril'. His main find was a Vril Generator, which he believed could be used to create a stable passage to the Aether.[7] He found that the Generator could fit into the front of the M.P.D, which he believed could cause one's body to be Cryogenically Frozen inside while their consciousness was sent to the Aether, meaning they could control Element 115, which in the story, is Vril.
Richtofen wanted to kill Maxis due to him not mass producing the Wunderwaffe because of his infatuation with Sophia (proof can be found in the terminal), and his refusal to let Richtofen continue with his teleportation experiments. Richtofen continued his charade in front of Maxis while waiting on Groph and Shuster to find a way to open the M.P.D, while waiting, he discovered he could create super soldiers by enhancing living humans with 115, being ingested as a drink. These drinks are now commonly known as the Perk-a-Colas. His test subjects in these experiments were Takeo, Nikolai and an unknown Mexican, who died during the experiments.[8] After perfecting the Perk-a-Colas, he designed vending machines for them to be held in, and had them dispersed throughout all Group 935 outposts, including Griffin Station.
