diGIT April 2010 editorial

Ayubowan, welcome to the April issue in the second volume of the online IT magazine diGIT. As you follow our magazine you will come to understand that there is a lot of areas in which technology can be applied for the benefit of all. New technological devices help us in reading and advancing our knowledge. It is a tool to make us smarter individuals.

Until recently weve had many educated individuals going abroad in search of wealth and forgetting the free education that was given to them. Hence it resulted in less development of our country since no attempt was made in advancing using technology. However, it is heartening to see a change of attitude with many opting to give back to the community and seeing a rich technological development in Sri Lanka. I hope this trend continues so that we can have a strong skillset of individuals living and working in our motherland.

Onto some highlights from this months issue, we have Udaya explaining to us about Google summer of code. If you are an undergraduate and havent heard of this initiative, then its worth looking into as it gives a valuable opportunity to be part of an open source project and allow you to gain some valuable experience programming.

We have Kushan, the editor of TheGamer magazine giving us a review of the game Avatar. Check out the review and see if he think its as good as the movie and worth playing.

Thameera continues on his lesson with Barney and teaches us about characters. Dive into the article and learn about null characters and more.

Nuwan goes in depth into the key elements of security involved in web service based architectures. Do check out his article to learn about MAC ids and how encryption is used for confidentiality.
