This trail starts north of Truckee, Ca. just outside of Independence Lake. This is an 11.5 mile out and back singletrack trail that climbs a relentless jeep road, then intersects the singletrack. The climb is about 6.5 miles, and climbs 2603 ft. The last 1/2 mile is hike a bike. It is steep and loose. Once on the top at 9143 ft. you have a spectacular view of everything around you including the back side of Castle Peak on Donner Pass, Interstate 80. The map does show a trail that connects Mt. Lola to Donner Pass, but don't believe it. I tried to connect it in 2008, and got to spend the night with Search & Rescue called on me the next morning. I got my self out, but it was an exciting experience.
Because people have asked, there is one place where I deviate from the trail. Please recognize that there are many hiker created trails that go to the edge to look over. I am on one of those hiker created trails.
The camera bike is a Cannondale Rize 3. The bike in the very front is a Cannondale RZ 1, and the orange bike being followed is an Ellsworth Epiphany.

@squash530 Wow squash.... If you read the previous reply, I am actually on a hiker created trail that goes over to the drop off. As for yielding, yes, we always yield to hikers, horses, and we always use a trail bell on the bikes to alert of our presence. This attitude does amaze me though. We all live in this world. We have done all we can to help others experience it. We share, and it is too bad to see attitudes like yours. We all need to learn how to SHARE...

Nice.
Stay on the trail, dude! Looks like Susie slowed down so you could keep up :)

Places I was off the trail were places hikers have already carved multiple lines. One for the view, and the others were already cut to make it up the loose stuff. And yes, Susie can ride.
