Poor side of town was a rivers original, the song memphis he stole from elvis presley who wrote the song and played it for rivers rivers turned around and recorded it ending there freinship

@dictator54- we are all entitled to our own opinion! I think Johnny Rivers SHOULD be in the Rock "n Roll Hall of Fame. He did have a lot of hits with cover versions that is true. He was a writer on "Poor Side of Town" which was his only #1 song. His cover versions (in my opinion) most of the time were as good or better than the original. He was one of the few American acts that still had hits during the British Invasion! I believe he made a significant impact on Rock music! Ron

@fab4fan4ever64- yes there is something wrong with the RRHOF when Johnny Rivers isn't in the Hall. Also Tommy James & The Shondells and Three Dog Night should be in there too! I think there is too much politics involved- especially when these acts are NOT in and Rap groups etc. ARE in. Ron

Rivers was a producer as well !the 5th dimention was on HIS label.His covers were much better then most originals and since when did you have to write your own stuff to be inducted to the HOF??how many Elvis songs were covers??Even the Beatles did covers that were hits!!
