here is a video from my dyno rhodes - it is a mark 1 stage rhodes 73 from 1977 with build in stereo chorus and of course the pro piano preamp with equalizer controls from dyno my piano. first you can hear the normal setting, then with stereo chorus, after that the dyno setting with the overtones and at last the normal setting again so you can compare the tone directly. I just improvised a little bit and the playing isn´t always perfect, but I want you to show how a dyno rhodes sounds, since I didn´t find one on you tube yet ....

  • @petejt lol, the dx7 e.piano was more likely the reason

  • I like that!

  • That chorus makes an insane amount of difference, great sound and great playing.

    Thanks for sharing

  • thank you for the post... I was wondering what "dyno" meant as I have a Yamaha CP-1 and was curious to understand that program better. It's a really cool sound! Like when a guitar player switches to his rear pickup and brightens the sound. Nice chops!

  • @Keyboardman88 , that must be why Dyno My Piano went out of business after 1984......

  • love the sound so much !!!

  • @Keyboardman88 Thanks Keyboardman

  • @NewShimmer Part Five. The Samson unit was called the WY Frequency Booster. It had bass & treble cut/boost controls like the DMP and a considerable signal boost. After installing the preamp I would go through and balance out the escapement, the pickups, and the fundimental to overtone mix. My keyboard with the WY throuhgh a stereo chorus sounds exactly like the piano in this vid. Fo more info, email me Robnatgeo@aol.com

  • @NewShimmer Part Four. Now here the kicker...in the early 80's the Samson company that made wireless microphones, built an active electronics, battery powered, preamp that replaced the controls in a Rhodes. It did pretty much the same thing as the DMP preamp. In the late 70's and early 80's I worked on Rhodes pianos and installed several of these. I have one in my Rhodes that still sounds fantastic to this day. The cost of the ubnit was $119 and it sounded just a good.

  • @NewShimmer Third. There were other options available such as knee lever under the piano that would be used to shift the position of the harp so there was an alternate striking line of the hammers on the tines. Back in the early 80's the cost of the basic DMP modification - preamp and setup - was around $600-$800..plus you had to pay shipping to and from California for the piano. Very expensive. ( continue to part four of my post to you.
