I bet that could crush a grape
very nice, do you know how much PSI or weight is fed through it?

This is a low pressure system. the pump that I am running is 700 PSI which equates to approximately 3400lbs. the cylinder is about 2 1/2" bore. I am in the process of building a horizontal compactor so look for it in a few days to a week.

SWEET! I WANT ONE! lol, how much does it cost to make one?

The wood about 50.00. The plexiglass door about 15.00. The cylinder is from a local hydrualic shop for 30.00. The pump was 175.00 for 3/4 gal/min flow. The single most expensive item was the valve. It is a BLB 3 spool 3 way 2 position valve, and costs 265.00. My advice to you is to check with local shops as they usually have all kinds of parts that they either dont use or dont need and can sell cheap. Anything else let me know, and let me know if you decide to build one, we can share ideas.

Are you building a bailer style compactor? If you add a rail support to the ram face, the unit should stay parallel to the stroke

This was a preliminary design. I wanted to make sure the pump & cylinders were adequate. The one I am working on will be similar to a baler, but will also have (2) cylinders on each side at the bottom to push inward. You are right about the railing. The new one will have steel angles for the verticals and steel bars that will ride inbetween the angles to keep the side to side motion out. If you have anything else please let me know.
Thanks.
