  • I like your tank and acei. Do you know how to distinguish male from females? i have two acei. and they love to swim together. They're almost inseparable.

  • @solesever yes they are one of the cichlid species that like shoaling. Males have usually 4 or more egg spots on their anal fin, while females will have less or none at all. other than that the males tend to be a bit larger and assume a dominant role in the tank, but for you that sounds like its not present, at least not yet. I have had these for about 2 years now, raised them from fry, how big are yours and do you see any egg slots on the anal fins?

  • Awesome fish. Makes me wish I still had my cichlids. Always had an issue with my acei eating the others though XD

  • @darkstar1652 hmm... what were the other kinds of cichlids that were in the tank? I haven't had much unusual aggression other than them picking on the pleco's fins. they also used to hunt down any feeder fish that I dropped into the tank for the gar I once had. poor gar was lucky if he got to them first. i noticed that they would chase newly introduced fish, test them out to see if they're tough. usually if there are places to hide new fish would survive this period until they were accepted.

  • how big is your tank? :D

  • @sandhu8248 this is a 55 gallon tank, it got a bit crowded there so I had to sell about half of the acei.

  • @m1ste2tea Mine are about inch and a half. i had one initially and it was chasing my convict all the time. Since I bought another acei the one that was chasing convict stopped immediately and does not separate from new acei. One does not have spots and the other one has one big yellow. I noticed they get along well with electric yellow cichlid.

  • @RAFaquaria thank you, good idea!

  • This is a GREAT video. It'd make an amazing screensaver.
