How to Backwash the Ultima II Filter

Learn how to backwash the Aqua Ultraviolet Ultima II Bead Filter.

Step One:
Turn off your pump.

Step Two:
Turn the filter valve from Filter to Backwash.

Step Three:
Turn on your pump.

Step Four:
Watch the discharge pipe. The water will run dirty and eventually it will run clear.

Step Five:
Turn off your pump.

Step Six:
Turn the valve from Backwash to Rinse.

Step Seven:
Turn on your pump.

Step Eight:
Again, the water will run dirty out of the discharge pipe. Wait for it to run clear.

Step Nine:
Turn off your pump.

Step Ten:
Turn the valve from Rinse to Filter.

Step Eleven:
Turn on your pump.

Now your filter is running again.

Things to keep in mind:

-Make sure your water level in your pond is topped off before you backwash your filter. That way you can have plenty of water to clean your filter.

-Most people backwash their Ultima II filters about once a week. Backwash more frequently if you have a higher fish load in your pond, less frequently if you have a light load.

-Make sure you de-chlorinate any water while you add it to your pond to refill it. Chlorine is toxic to fish.

awesome ,turn it to backwash,the clean water comes from the pond and clean the filter.the dirty water discharge by the another pipe.but how does rinse work,where does the clean water comes from and the dirty discharge to.what is the diference from the rinse and backwash,thanks

@MrJerryshen Rinsing resets the media in the filter and flushes out any residual waste that's left after the backwashing cycle.
