it put the fire out

yes i would say it is a german fireman, he has got an old helmet, now in germany we have got new helmets too.

You are wrong. It is because the water goes below the oil and due to the heat the water turns to steam and pushes the fireball into the air. This is possible due to the very high heat of the oil.

I have a new vid up of me sitting 5 metres away from this happening!

the oil industries kill those fires with explosions, with dynamite and all the stuff. Since the explosion cuts the oxigen right away from the fire, it diminishes. Thats why when you pour water on a hi-temp surface, it burns worse, because of the o2, feeding the combustion.

true story. i was cooking with hot oil last night and i started a fire in the pan. I decided to pour water on it. horrible idea as you can see. i flames burst into the ceiling which became on fire. my dad and i miracuously put it out with hitting it with a towel. i felt like it was a miracle from God that we got it out.
