It's hard to tell, from this video.
I can't think of a phenomenon that would cause a visual glitch like this. The usual cause would be z-fighting, but that is a flat wall, there's nothing to cause z-fighting.
It could be something in the foreground, that only appears to be attached to the wall, but what? Alternately, it could be something in the background, which is rendering in front of foreground elements, but again, what?

that is just a graphics glitch. the so-called wall is just the way the camera faces the castle and where the camera is placed, meaning it would be a graphics glitch. that is my theory of the so-called window. P.S. i am not trying to prove anyone wrong, i am just saying what i think of the "window."

search for "Nintendo Super Mario 64x4 Debut", and put the video on 2:42, when yoshi moves the camera you will see the 2d black box in the game!!
