@ricemolson around the western USA its just SP 4449 in Portland OR, SF3751 in Los Angeles, CA area, UP3985 & UP844 in Cheyenne, WY for operating mainline steam

The question of the diesel locomotive is for dymanic braking, to ease wear and tear on the brakes of the steam engine and if the steam engine breaks down the diesel can pull it out from where it's from. This is what the engineer told me when it was here in El Paso last month. Makes a lot of sense. Nice video! Awesome to see how fast it really can go! Love it!
