Not everyone is happy that Mickey Mouse and friends are on their way to China. The plans to build a multi-billion dollar Disneyland theme park south of Shanghai has local villagers up in arms—defending their ancestors.
Thats because the building plans require homes to be demolished and—more problematically—graves to be moved. The villagers believe that disturbing the graves of their ancestors will have devastating effects.
Local officials are pushing ahead with the project in spite of the villagers concerns.
The proposed Disneyland has been heavily criticized in the national media, with opponents blasting it as socially divisive and a waste of money.
