At a hearing Wednesday, in response to a question from Senator Merkley, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson said that EPA will work with the State of Oregon to make a decision on whether the city of Portland receives a variance from unnecessary treatment for Cryptosporidium under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Administrator Jackson emphasized that the EPA will work with the state and not at cross purposes.
