http://www.purplegolf.com/academy Rickie Fowler is a fantastic player to watch. He's young, talented, full of confidence and loves to stand there and rip it so we thought it'd be fun to analyse his swing and see why he's so good.

And remember, if you're struggling with your game then why not give us a look and we'll be happy to help.

  • Thanks Useeher. I think the point is that Rickie has quite an unorthodox action and isn't one of those guys who has a coach follow him around the Tour. That makes him pretty unusual and very interesting for us to study. There's more than on way to play this game!

  • if ricky didn't swing the way Ricky swings he wouldn't even be on tour to begin with...

  • @viciousclarity

Haha, another myth of the self taught player busted. However, smart instructors don't mess too much with unorthodox moves as long as the player gets the club on the ball solidly and reliably.

The joke is on all the hackers who want to do it "their way" but, still can't hit the ball worth a shit. Nothing is more pathetic than some 15 handicapper not doing what the pro wants cuz he knows better.

  • I agree, Rickie has amazing amount of talent but, his lack of textbook technique is what makes him too inconsistent to last a 4 round tournament. He definitely needs to change but, like you said, where would you start?

  • @viciousclarity Everyone was a protoge' of someone but his point is well taken and that is once you have the fundamentals down, you don't necessarily have to have someone following you around. So tell me, did Lee Trevino have a steady coach and if so, who?

  • @purplegolf Nice analysis, I think that once an individual knows the fundamentals they should think twice about having an instructor mess with their swing and psyche!!

  • sooooo, being on a team in college doesn't qualify as having been taught? He went to Oklahoma state University...I know they have a very good Golf Team, you don't think he learned anything from that Golf coach while he participated in there.....I would wager that he would disagree

  • Sorry bro but Rickie did indeed have a golf coach, his name was Barry Mcdonnell.

or "Big B" as we called him at the Murrieta Valley Golf Range. I worked there for 5 years in the mid 90's til 2002. Rickie started working with Barry when he was just 7 years old all the way until Barry passed in May of '11. Barry was a big Hogan guy and showed those techniques to Rickie his entire youth.
