The dietary supplement industry has always been ad odds with the drug industry due to the fact that they approach health from opposite ends. Under pressure from the pharmaceutical companies, the FDA and other agencies have off and on, tried to impose unfair controls on the dietary supplement industry, sometimes to the point of wanting to make all supplements available only by prescription. After the passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act in the 90s, the dietary supplement industry finally had some recognition and established guidelines to protect both the consumers and the industry. Since that time, there have been a few attempts at trying to rewrite DSHEA and change the guidelines each has failed. Senator John McCain put the most recent attack on DSHEA forth in a recent bill. The McCain bill would have put unnecessary restrictions on the supplement industry, making it very difficult to obtain supplements and especially to research and develop new formulations. Fortunately, Senator McCain has stepped back on that bill and is now working with the authors of DSHEA to find a way to accomplish the good of the proposed bill while eliminating the un-necessary restrictions. The supplement industry already has the GMP or Good Manufacturing Practices program in place and further regulation is not needed. The GMP is designed to ensure quality in production, raw materials, and in labeling. In Europe they have been dealing with the Codex regulations, which were intended to restrict the availability of supplements in the European Union. Fortunately this has never really taken off either and supplement sales in the European Union are still very open. The important thing is for everyone to constantly stay alert to these attempts to take your health freedoms away. Apathy could result in a loss of your dietary supplement freedoms. If you are concerned about how to protect your health freedoms, you should subscribe to our Institutes E Journal. We will keep you posted on legislation proposals that could restrict your health freedoms so that you can contact your local and national lawmakers to express your desire to keep your access to dietary supplements. Health Freedom Alerts about supplement restrictions will be sent to you automatically. Bills like the McCain bill here and the Codex proposals in Europe must be stopped if we with to enjoy the health freedoms we currently have. The dietary supplement industry has gone to great lengths to create the GMP to ensure quality at all phases of supplement manufacture and further regulation is certainly not necessary. Such regulation would serve only to rob you of your ability and access to quality dietary supplements for your good health. • Micheal Savage was talking about this recently. Big pharma is doing everything they can to destroy the natural health industry. Thanks for the update.
