I was gonna do some testing out in the car but had one of the MA's out of the box as I was testing a different speaker in it, after screwing it in, I pushed on the cone & it was rubbing real bad! WHAT THE ****! This did not make no sense as last time I had it playing it was fine. I know I abused them with the RF 800a2, but they worked fine after that so I could not believe it. I moved the cone up & down by hand & it sounded & felt horrible, I did that for a while then hooked it up to my home stereo amp & flexed it a good bit & it stopped rubbing & seemed fine, so I figured something must be in the voice coil gap that shouldn't be. If I left it alone & continued using it like that its almost a guarantee it would blow next time I thumped it, if whatever was in there got wedged again while under serious use it would be toast, so the next best option is to carefully take it apart, see what's wrong, clean the VC gap & hope that's it & get it back together right. I did find a small piece of metal at the bottom of the gap so I hope that's it, the voice coil & top plate got scratched a little, but the top plate don't matter & the voice coil should be fine, I will go over it more. It came apart real clean & everything should be salvageable, the torch worked great softening the glue on the spider & surround, I used this method before on surrounds, but first time I tried it on a spider, worked great on the glue in this particular speaker. Just got to take both dust covers off too shim it when reassembling, but it should be good. I need to get some glue though. I started taking it apart & thought I would get my camera out on some of the process, mainly the heating & lifting of the spider & surround. Not the greatest video clips, but it was a last minute sort of thing.
