In this review, I take a look at a party-based RPG based on the German pen-and-paper system, The Dark Eye.

ESRB Rating: Teen (13+) - Blood, Suggestive Themes, Tobacco Reference, Use of Alcohol, Violence

All settings maxed at 1024x768 resolution. Watch in high quality (480p) for best visuals.

Grab the demo here: http://www.fileplanet.com/195432/190000/fileinfo/Drakensang:-The-Dark-Eye-Demo

To clarify my review scores (they're "rough" scores, meaning it's not supposed to be some sort of percentage or anything):
1 or lower = Terrible. Avoid at all costs.
1.5 = Has a few redeeming qualities, but still sucks and should be avoided.
2 = Mediocre (Sub-par). You'll probably want to avoid this one.
2.5 = Underwhelming, but playable.
3 = Average. Worth playing, but probably not at full price.
3.5 = Good, but has issues.
4 = Excellent, but has a few problems that could probably be fixed through patching.
4.5 = Exceptional. Better than 4 but still has a few problems that could be ironed out.
5 = Outstanding. Stuff in this category is pretty much "must own."

  • Two Worlds was hilarious only because of it's voice acting

  • The best part was they thought the dialogue was good...

  • Thanks for your balanced review. I have the game but I haven't played it yet (same goes for Arcania and Risen). I played the demo and liked the game, I knew there was something there worth playing. Perhaps this Winter I will lol.

  • ArcaniA's kinda weak so you might not want to play that... but yeah, I understand. Finding time to delve into a complex or immersive RPG is pretty tough.

  • @DWTerminator Yeah, plus I was trying to finish my first LP (I suck at them) and I knew if I started playing it I would never do that lol.

Then I started playing Oblivion, pushing myself to like it. If it kicks me out again with its lousy character, I think I will start with Dragensang.

Anyway, keep up the great reviews coming. I have only written (for a magazine 10 years ago) a review and I don't want to do that again. Too much pressure for me.

BTW, new microphone or new position?

  • LP's are pretty tough to start in, but once you get used to them they get easier and as you get more comfortable narrating, the LP's get better.

If you have to force yourself to like something, then don't bother with it. Drakensang was a game where my liking of it was a sort of roller coaster for the most part. It takes a lot of patience, that's for sure.

I've had the same mic for months so I dunno.

  • @Trusteft Risen is a great game. If you liked the older Gothic games you'll like it, but even if you haven't it's a refreshing RPG.

  • @leevan50rrie QUIT ASKING HIM!

  • You played Skyrim yet?

  • I've played the demo of it.
