Our Pastor allows me to ring the church bell, which has been silent for way too long, on Church Holidays and special occasions. The bell weighs over 6,000lbs and is rung manually by rope. I was told the Angelus bells were taken down due to damage after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. So the solo, big bell remains. The Men of St. Paul's worked hard to restore the bell's wheel after the entire bell toppled over during the quake. I'm honored to be able to ring it. Video was taken on a camera phone by a friend who was standing outside.

  • The tone of that bell is too high to be a 6,000 pound bell.

  • @frsdonahue you're probably right, that's just what I was told by one of the parish handymen. The audio on this video isn't the best either, it was taken on an old cellphone of mine.

  • Apparently someone in the nieghborhood complained to the rectory a while back about the bells ringing and so the big bell was only rung on special occasions. I do hope one day that the parish will raise funds to restore the other bells which were taken down. And I agree 100% that it is excellent evangelism. Thanks for your comment.

  • Bring on the bells!

    I love Church bells so much I got me a set of 58" Woodstock Chimes

    called "Chimes of Westminister".

    They sound like Church bells and are really loud! They're Incredible!

    Check them out on Amazon, one person has a video comment and

    shows them in action!

    God Bless +++

  • Very nice! Your parish should invest in getting the other bells restored and then use them every day. It is excellent evangelism.
