This fan was likely made in 1949 if I'm reading the Serial # correctly. I'll look in the 1949 catalogs to see if it's in there.
In their catalogs Signal referred to their hassock fans as the "Secretaire" line, in that it's a fan disguised as furniture. The outer casing on this fan is made of wood veneer and has an interesting "tribal" looking inlay along the bottom edge of the fan plenum.
With the exception of a funky speed coil, this fan is in great shape. Initially when I got it the blade was loose on the shaft which caused a loud rumble, but correct reassembly has made this a decently quiet runner even on high speed. Aside from cleaning and oiling, all I did was add a new line cord.
This fan is actually going to a friend of mine, who is giving to another friend as a gift.
