Testing my new electric ice auger driver on Lake Laberge, Yukon. It was 4 May 2011, and the ice was about as thick as I could get through without an extension. Total drilling time was ~35 seconds, with the top 40cm or so of the ice pretty candled and the rest clear and hard. Auger bit is a Finbore III 8", motor is from an electric wheelchair, and power source is 2 x 12V sealed lead-acid batteries. I drilled 12 holes in the same ice without losing power - who knows how many more I could have drilled on a charge.
