Gauges, a word that makes no sense

The word "gauges" is a highly debatable word that I have been wanting to make a video on for a while now. Seems like every youtube video these days that has to do with body modification, there are at least 2 or more people arguing about the correct use of the word so I thought I would give my opinion on it. Like I said in the video, Im for sure not a know it all and if you use the word gauges then its totally fine. However, I do think there are better words to use that make more sense.
