I remember seeing John quite a lot in Brisbane in the 90's he was known as 'The Legend'. Hardly anyone danced to his music because they would trip over their jaw. Awesome musician and a lovely man.

Strange rhythm but it works - now I hear the story in this song as if you lived it. I like how the crowd starts out loud and ends up hushed.
Is it completely solo?

Listen in the second chorus. Isn't that a drummer or drum machine?
And it sounds like a second guitar fills out the lead parts. Backing track?

Oh that thing ;) Imagine tapping your foot along at those parts, now imagine having a little wooden contraption under your foot that when tapped turns into an amplified beat. John is in real time tapping his foot to his playing to produce that beat. He does it often, but it is all him in real-time using his arms and his feet. Lead is all him, very clear from the video that is the case. Right thumb drives the rhythm while fingers do the lead is one way to look at it. Glad you are enjoying it.
