Well I never thought I'd see an 8F in the north east (it's the first time I've ever seen an 8F). A pretty unique sight so I made sure I was out there getting plenty of shots to document its visit.
If you were lucky enough to be on the sold-out train here's your chance to see what it looked like from the lineside.

First we're out near Palmersville catching 48151 on the early stages of the Blyth and Tyne line running parallel to Metro metals. Early morning and damp weather equals lots of steam. She flew past in a big cloud. I could hear her blasting away into the distance for ages afterwards.
Next the train is coasting into Newcastle with a nice background shot of the Tyne Bridge.
A little later the sun came out as Gauge O Guild fairly rockets through Co Durham heading for Darlington.
Finally a nice long sunset shot of the train returning to Newcastle across the dramatic King Edward VII Bridge, following in the steps of many LNER pacifics.

Filming steam hauled trains always involves a bit of luck and perseverance (well with me it does!) but NO TRESPASSING.
I'm quite proud of the footage I managed to get this time. I'm happy to share it with you!
Thanks for watching.

  • great steam video mate thats a liked and fav

  • I liked this- especially the long shot crossing the Tyne at the end.

She doesn't sound quite right about 50 seconds in and there seems to be a lot going on around her left cylinder (right from your POV). Do you know if anything was wrong? I followed this tour further south after it joined the Stockton loop and didn't notice it but, although she worked hard at Shildon, she wasn't going anything like so quickly.

  • Great shots, thank you for sharing.

  • Some of the better scenes here. Nice steady shots with no extraneous sounds and waving around. good shot from Palmersville! Thanks.
