A majority of whites who were conservative and of the religious right voted for McCain while Obamas base was mostly multicultural. The final election statistics showed: 95% of African-Americans voted for him, 67% of Hispanics/Latinos voted for him, 62% of Asian-Americans, 54% of Catholics, 78% of Jewish voters and 70% of gays and lesbians. These may be the same numbers for November 2012 if the Republican party nominate another white candidate whose campaign is again full of fears and smears.

I love seeing California turning blue just before they switch to the reaction of the people outside of the studio.

Gotta love that pause from Charles Gibson before he makes it official. I think ABC and CNN did it better!

I will never forget watching Charlie Gibson calling the election for Obama. I was flipping through the channels all night, and once Ohio was called I knew Obama had it. But at 11:00, when all was over, I had ABC on, and Gibson's call gave me chills. Just listen to his voice crack as he projects a stunning piece of American History. He cannot believe it. Whether Democrat or Republican, independent or indifferent, you have to be proud of what this country can overcome!!

In rejecting the politics of divisiveness and jingoism, We the People moved this nation once again toward a more perfect union. We judged Mr. Obama based on the content of his character rather than the color of his skin, thus realizing a dream expressed some forty-five years ago in a speech for the ages.

One hundred thousand people cheered as one in Grant Park, and the world cheered too, as We the People celebrated a day that will be remembered as one of our nation's finest hours.

Well said. I'm an old fat white guy and I haven't been so encouraged since Jack Kennedy was in the oval office.
