The only reason I can guess they came up with for cutting this, one of the best scenes of the movie out is that it made the Aliens appear to not be as intelligent as they intended. The act of rushing auto guns would not be the high point of Xenomorph pride. I have the Director's Cut set at home so this scene is in my copy.

It's odd that they removed it, considering it is the only part in entire movie franchise were they show us these "sentry guns/turrets."
