I am reciting this lovely Emily Dickinson poem.

I died for beauty, but was scarce
Adjusted in the tomb,
When one who died for truth was lain
In an adjoining room.

He questioned softly why I failed?
"For beauty," I replied.
"And I for truth - the two are one;
We brethren are," he said.

And so, as kinsmen met a-night,
We talked between the rooms,
Until the moss had reached our lips,
And covered up our names.

  • Very imaginative, indeed !

    I appreciate this so strange poem.

    Great thanks,

  • @C6H12B26 Thank you ~ from what I have read Emily Dickinson believed in the beauty that is the truth expressed in words. This poem is uplifting in a way because of the idea of having someone to share death with through the passage of time. If I recited it again I would put more emphasis on the "I" in the first line.
