I hate the way homophobes try to use a 'freedom of religion' or 'freedom of conscience' argument to try to justify their prejudice. Freedom of religion/conscience means being free to live your own life according to your beliefs. It does not mean being free to force other people to live their lives according to your beliefs. It is outlandish that anyone in our society thinks they should have the right to prevent other consenting adults from getting married. We don't discriminate about who can be marriage partners based on other factors such as height, weight, skin color, hair color, race, religion, ethnic background, age difference etc., so why try to discriminate based on gender and sexual orientation???
