November 2009 saw some of the worst flooding in history in Ireland. Cork,Galway and Athlone were worst affected. This is my tribute to them.
The song is Stereophonics - Beerbottles from the new album 'Keep Calm and Carry On'.
Lyrics:
I watched the water rise in our house
The rain poured in and washed out our stuff
My father drank from beer bottles
Then he'd say

We'll walk on, walk on, what's done, is done
walk on, my son, never let this world drag you down

All that we had was deep in the mud
Our photographs and family treasures
My mother drank from beer bottles
Then she'd say

We'll walk on, walk on, what's done, is done
Walk on, my son, never let this world drag you down

Don't let it bring you down (and let your head drop down)
Don't let the sun go down (and let your light go out)
Don't let yourself fall down
Just pick yourself up from the street and get up on your feet

Walk on, walk on, what's done, is done
Walk on, my son, never let this world drag you down
Never let this world drag you down

  • (contd from 2nd comment) The house itself was only 4 months old when it got flooded. So we went to the plannig authorities in Galway city and asked; was that area known to be prone to flooding? They said they were aware of that. But we still cant get over that if they already knew that it was a flood prone area, WHY THE HELL DID THEY NOT TELL US?!?!?, when we applied for planing permission. I just dont get it!! So anyways we have a new house to live in for now. Il keep you updated.

  • @Josephtube666 Good man I'm glad to hear you's are nearly ready to move into the new house. Such a pity about the house that got destroyed, all the hard work and planning literally washed away. Fair play to you and yours for staying strong and focused on the new place and for not conceding defeat easily. Its easy for people not affected by the floods, like me, to forget that people are still rebuilding their homes and lives after it all nearly a year on. When its not all over the news and

  • Our house was flooded under 5 feet of water......

    IT FUCKING SUCKS

everything is destroyed..................................and we cant move back into the house until August 2010

  • @Josephtube666 Hey man hows things going for you now, any sign of moving back into your house?

  • Just want to wish strength to everybody affected by these floods, hope you will be able to make your houses feel like home again and your businesses workable. Good luck!

  • Weird how this song was released just a few days before the floods. It is a story of Kelly (Stereophoncs lead singer) when he was young. His house too was flooded. Great dedication to the flood victims.

  • @Josephtube666 splashed across the papers its forgotten by most so its good to hear your story. Best of luck with everything mate, take care.

  • @allinwith2s (contd from 1st comment) The house that was flodded was a "state of the art" house. It was VERY expensive to build and it was our dream home, it had geothermal underfloor heating, solar panels and wood pellet boiler (just to back up the geothermal), but the WORST part was it was Timber-Frame construction, so when the civil engineer came to survey the structure integrety of the house, he straight away said we had to Demolish it. Which was a real blow to all of us.

  • @allinwith2s Sorry about the Late reply. Thing are going both good and bad. The house itself was just demolished there last month, due to the fact that it was timber frame and most of it had started to rot out (the water level was halfway up the windows), right now we are currently renting a house while we built a new one not to far away from where the old one was. Its currently in the process of plastering. We should be moving in, in about 2-3 weeks.

  • jesus!

  • Great photos..
