Hey there KYGuyz: That is the type of Percheron stallion that I am looking for to breed my two Perch mares to. All I am finding so far are the larger, taller (and thinner) "hitch type". How can I find this stallion? Is he standing to the public?

A walking horse makes a good mule. They are real popular around here. I just bought an Appaloosa mule and he seems like he is gonna be a good one. The percheron stud I used weighed about 1700, Short and stocky type. What we call the old fashioned type. I figure the fillies will weigh about 1500 and stand about 16 hands when grown. We used live cover and had no complications. I would really like to have suffolks myself but there are none close.

I have a mule weanling out of my walking horse mare and I have her being bred back to the same jack right now. I never thought about using a draft on her. How big was the stud? how big did those mares end up getting? did you use live cover or AI? Are there any complications doing that? I guess not if you did it twice, just wondering. I might try a suffolk or brabant belgian stud on her next year.

they will hit a slow run walk, but we don't ride them. I bet they would get better if ridden but we don't have the time. They were out of a walking horse mare bred to a percheron stud. I now have a pair of colts out of these mares that are also by a percheron stud.

Interesting cross. Are they gaited? did you use a walking horse stud on a perch mare or vise versa?

Many thanks! We hope to post some new videos soon. Hang in there and keep focused and you will get you a farm!

KYGuyz, let me tell you those are some beautifull horses you got there. Wow... i would love to one day have a little farm like that. (I live in Miami now. No farms here!) Keep posting videos like this one, with the old traditional ways of doing things that don't mess up our environment. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Good luck!
are you amish?

We are not Amish, but do have a lot of Amish friends and neighbors. We farm with horses because for us it makes good sense. The horses are cheaper than a tractor, they make fertilizer for the farm, they don't pollute, they can replace themselves, and we just really enjoy and prefer working with them. I like being able to hear the birds sing, and the wind in the trees while I work. I like hearing the horses, and the harness jingle while they walk.

@babywolfgurl26 We are not Amish. But our Amish neighbors refer to us as "fringe Amish". Our other neighbors just think we are crazy.
