  • 300 km/h is the beginning of its potential. I think that conventional railway trains are easily capable of reaching speeds of 400 km/h in regular operation, its only a matter of 15-20 years to see this happen. With that in mind I would highly question the idea of maglev trains (now impemented commercially at only 430 km/h) UNLESS they develop speeds in excess of 600 km/h. The fastest trains reach 330 km/h which is only 100 km/s difference and it makes senseless to pay so much for infrastructure

  • You're right, but 400 km/h is a bit too expensive. Accelerating from 300 km/h to 400 km/h take too long and too much energy.

    Reaching 600 km/h is only a question of having a long, straight track, you can accelerate the transrapid to that speed, if you want to use some stronger engines.

    Yes. That extra 100km/h doesn't cut down the travel time enough for it to be worth building. We're talking minutes here....

  • @rangelso Agreed. The Valero in China (CRH3) runs at 350 km/h while the new Zefiro 380 will be running at 380 km/h
