Now we need another bumper sticker...."Don't text and drive!". It's an epidemic!! In fact, the other day a bumper sticker really caught my attention. Sadly, it said: "Texting and driving killed my mother". Hopefully, it makes people think twice.

@geminigemini that may be where he is wrong, but as you said, right in every other case.

@Gtarist62 Disagree. There's something different about it. I can carry on a conversation with someone in the car just fine and drive, but being on the phone is different, and I think it is because when you are riding with someone they understand that your attentiveness is on driving and don't mind your delays in response and thought, but when you are on the cell phone you give that person your full attention.

I believe that the mechanics of driving and traffic rules/awareness require the "attentional spotlight" for many, but not *all* people. My experience is that this lies in the "subconscious" or "muscle memory" category. I still hate talking on the phone while driving, though, since my "navigation" skill didn't find it's way out with the others, and I always end up driving to taco bell by default.

i totally get this & agree, but i dont know how you can say it's worse than drunk driving?? if your texting and notice your not paying attention and have a close call, you can hang up. if your drunk....... you cant stop that process and many impaired drivers are past the point of even knowing they need to stop driving.
i dont know if u watched the whole vid. but he said that it impairs your focus because you are imagining what the other person on the phone is thinking. and he has studied the brain, im fairly certain that you have not
