For auto lovers, the demise of any brand is a sad story, and so is the saga of Oldsmobile. One of the oldest auto brands in the world after Daimler and Peugeot, sadly the GM line came to an end in 2004 after producing more than 32 million cars in its 107-year history, including such icons as the Rocket 88 and the Jetfire, featuring the first turbocharged engine, and the 442. Luckily, the brand lives on at the GM Heritage Center in Sterling Heights, Mich., which has a large collection of Oldsmobiles, as I found out during a tour with HC Manager Greg Wallace.

  • R.I.P Oldsmobile 1897-2004

  • GO SILVER ROCKET GO X====>

  • not open to the public WTF??:P

  • Stupid GM the worst mistake they ever made was closing down Oldsmobile.

  • sell them all or no bailout

  • Stronger than fords Flathead V8 I belive that hudson cars were the only cars beating The rocket 303 right?

  • 32 coupe olds is one awsome car, Charles Kettering invented the electric self starter, and the hydramatic, the rocket 303 is one of the coolest engines ever,:) It was the start for muscle cars using a ligher chassi with (I think it was the modell 76) the new V8. Then It was named the 88. For modells 1949-1953, first modell had the front split window, OHH Its so sad oldsmobile ended. But if you listen real hard you can still hear that rocket Go. X====>

  • It really is sad R.E.Olds is a huge part of its home town now it stuck mixed up with no all the rest of gm nothing special

  • not only did they kill olds, GM raped lansing of the RE Olds musuem and put it their dumb heritage center!

  • it's telling how poorly managed american automakers are these days when an entire division is killed,in particular one such as olds with its spirit of innovation.much could have been gained than trying to foist off conservative, repetative, dull clones as gm in paticular does at present.i own an aurora which has been called gm's best all arounder ever, but i will look elsewhere for my next new car.
