Rni was bombed bij radio Veronica. The owner -who passed away recently at the age of 100 - was sentenced for it. The purpose was to get get the mebo II into the Dutch waters. However it had to be done without any violence, Instead those idiots tried to do this with a fire-bomb
Unfortunately this creation is factually incorrect from beginning to end. The jingles come from the latter era (circa 1972/3) and the Mi Amigo, and not from the true memorable (circa 1970/1) era of the Mebo 2.
Besides, no pirate radio ship was ever "bombed"! However there was an argument between the owners of the Mebo2 which lead in 1971 to water hose threats from a hired fireboat. I heard and recorded this, unfortunately I no longer have the tape.
Great memories, but hardly recognised the jingles without the jamming. The election you mention was won by Ted Heath, despite being given no chance beforehand. There was an article in the Daily Express a couple of years later suggesting that the Labour Government of the time had miscalulated the importance of off-shore radio to the younger generation who had the right to vote at 18 for the first time[previously 21] and may have swung it the Tories way in a close election
I remember the jamming very well, so pathetic of the government - so anti private enterprise.
Their feeble excuses about the Pirates interfering with emergency services was totally unfounded.
I used to follow the plight of the Pirates very closely.
We must not forget the Pirates "up north" - Radio Caroline North (199m), Radio Scotland (242m) and Radio 270 (off Scarborough) which lost its mast before it could broadcast a single note.

Wasn't the fire on the Mebo 2 caused by a firebomb thrown on board as reported by Alan West live on air at the time?

Very nostalgic, brings back happy memories.
