This film is magnificent. Just watched it in the deluxe 2 DVD set. It did have English subs.

I got it for Zhang Ziyi. But everyone in it (her too) does wonderfully -- including the director's wife as Mei's wife Zinfang. It's a DON'T MISS film!

It's apparently somewhat fictionalized, but it is a wonderful film. It turned me on to Chinese -- Peking -- opera. POWERFUL, and spectacularly beautiful, art form!
