Well, they're feelings probably not the same as ours, and some animals probably can't feel all the feelings some other animal can. But I do think they have some degree of feelings, depending on species or individual.
Wonderful Marc, we are hoping you will be able to come and speak at our 2013 conference, Awakening to Animals, Elaine Downs, Sue Reid and I are organising the event this year in March 2012 and will continue to host it annually. Your voice would be amazing for this growing community of awakening souls. Thank you for all you do. Warm wishes, Julie Lines. Voice of the Animals.
Thank you for being a MAVERICK and not foregoing you scientific angle nor abandoning the common sense that OF COURSE animals feel. If you spend anytime with two animals in the room and stay out of it you can see with your own eyes they express emotions and communicate. I worked for a zoo for 9 years and I have been a dog trainer for the last 15.....every mammal I ever worked with displayed emotions. I cant speak to fish and amphibians....but as you said I can't say it doesnt happen either.
I absolutly agree with Caligirl1291 - I feel exactly the same. Since a small child I was in conflict with my teachers who were trying to teach me that animals have no feelings and cattle when branded feel no pain. I could see the pain and immediately felt empathy. I am so glad that people like Marc Bekoff are changing and are allowed to change wrong understanding of animals emotions and capabilities.
Just finished "The Emotional Lives of Animals." Great book, I really love the work he does and what he has to say about animals. It's basically what I've been feeling my whole life, but articulated beautifully and backed up by research.

I read The Animal Manifesto, it was, to say the least, quite fantastic.
