Spoon headlined the first day of the third annual 80/35 music festival. Hours before they played I sat down with Spoon's lead singer Britt Daniel in the band's trailer with Lisa Edwards and Des Moines Register reporter Joe Lawler. During our interview the band's keyboardist Eric Harvey eats chips with guacamole, opens a bottle of Patron tequila, and joins our discussion about Britt's music influences. • OK, we get it, you're an NPR reporter. You want him to like NPR. How about asking something people actually care about instead of pimping your employer? Embarrassing.

  • @jpkenyon Actually I do not work for NPR but a member station. When spoon released their new album this year they made it avail to NPR.ORG for free as have a number of indy alt artists. From this q I got an interesting response from him about how some people qualify their listening tastes by what someone else says.

  • He seems like a cool guy. They're a cool band. And a good one too.

  • it's hard for such a sexy rockstar to be as sexy in an interview. i appreciate that he's real, but sexy, no way. he can't win. unless he sang the answers to his questions. that might have helped.

  • 'more serious fans are the only ones buying music anymore'. i agree wholeheartedly. i would love to think that phenomenal artists such as spoon are finally getting the recognition they deserve, but i doubt it's true. they may be bigger than they were 5 years ago but they certainly aren't where they deserve to be.

  • This video makes me want to rent-a-fence. Also...great job!
