It was a mistake, incorrect judgement. At the time, they thought they HAD been attacked. They never said the attack on August 2nd didn't happen, just August 4th. They did not lie.  They truthfully thought that they had been attacked. Here, he is admitting that later, due to more investigations, it came out to them that their judgement about the attacks on the 4th had been incorrect. It was a mistake, not a lie.

There was no attack on August 2, 1964 either, no damages, no casualties. Debris raises questions, not "no question".

The Vietnamese never did attack the US military or the land mass. Vietnam was never even a threat. It was the US that attacked Vietnam for over 10 years, following the British Commonwealth, Australia, in and out of Vietnam, following orders from the Queen.

There never was a South Vietnam. The entire policy was a pack of lies that eventually collapsed in its invalidity.

I don't think this was a "false flag" as some would say but an opportune moment for LBJ & others ti invade Vietnam. Consider the times. There were Soviet spies under every rock, we were in the midst of the Cold War, The Cuban Missile Crisis & all these events occurred w/ in the same generation as the McCarthy trials. It's understandable given the paranoid nature of the time.
